Detectives recover N13m stolen motorcycles

The truck carrying the motocycles
A truck loaded with N13m worth of motorcycles has been recovered by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Adeniji Adele, Lagos.
The truck marked, YK 134 NSH, was said to have been hijacked on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway by armed robbers about 5am on August 2, 2013.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the vehicle was headed for Obiaroko in Warri, Delta State. A suspect, identified as the motor boy of the truck, has been arrested in connection with the alleged robbery.
The owner of the truck, Fidelis Onyejegbu, told PUNCH Metro that the motorcycles were purchased from a company in Lagos.
Onyejegbu said, “I purchased about 130 pieces of the motorcycles from a company in Lagos for N13m.
“The motorcycles were loaded into the truck at Ojo Road on August 1 2013; I had someone make the arrangements for me. The truck was meant to leave for Obiaroko that same night.
“To my surprise, I got a call the next day, that the truck had been hijacked. It was intercepted by six armed men. The driver of the truck was forced out of the vehicle at gunpoint along with his motorboy.
“The driver later went to the Odogbolu Police Division in Ogun State to make a report, before I eventually came to FSARS to make another report.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that the truck which was initially diverted to an unknown destination was traced by FSARS operatives to the Challenge area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Commissioner of Police, FSARS, Mr. Mohammed Gana, confirmed the incident and the recovery of the vehicle.
He said, “The truck was traced to Ibadan on August 14, 2013. When FSARS operatives stormed the hideout of the robbers in Challenge, a motor boy was found waiting in the truck.
“He has confessed during interrogation that the vehicle was due to take off from Challenge to Nnewi, Anambra State, where a buyer was waiting.
“We were able to recover 110 pieces of the motorcycles; 20 are missing. Efforts are being made to apprehend the other robbers, who are currently at large.”

LIB exclusive: Monalisa Chinda and Lanre Nzeribe break up

After dating for almost a year and a half, actress Monalisa Chinda and business man Lanre Nzeribe have called it quits and this is authoritative. According to sources close to the actress, Monalisa walked out of the relationship about a month ago. Why they really broke up is of course only known to both of them but I know there was a lot of disagreement about a business venture they were to start together. Monalisa and Lanre were working on a magazine called Monalisa before their break up. They already got an office at Chase Mall on Adetokunbo Ademola street in VI, employed staff and even worked on the first edition of the mag before they went their separate ways. More to come...

We’ll soon end ASUU strike–Anyim

We’ll soon end ASUU strike–Anyim
By Chinelo Obogo
Secretary to the Federal Government, Anyim Pius Anyim, has stated that contrary to the claims by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government has demonstrated commitment to the implementation of the 2009 FG/ASUU agreement.
In a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Sam Nwaobasi, he said the Federal Government was fully committed to ending the ongoing strike and bringing  students back to school. He however, stated that many of the issues in the 2009 agreement, which ASUU had with the Federal Government and which it claimed were still unresolved, had been resolved.
Among the contentious issues, according to the statement, were the rent approved by the governent and the consolidated salary structure for non teaching staff.
These, he said had been fully implemented as all teaching and non-teaching staff had been on the consolidated salary structure since 2009. Another issue was the amendment of the pensionable retirement age of academics in the professional cadre, as professors now retire at 65 instead of 60 years.
He stated: “Besides the issue of retirement age and consolidated salary structure, the government has always assisted state universities through the federal intervention agencies, and the present special revitalization programme covers both state and federal universities.
“On the issue of the transfer of landed property to universities, the government has made it clear that it cannot transfer landed property to ASUU because it has no structure to manage or maintain such property. Government is however, willing to support any university that sets up a property company with management structure to compete with others in the industry.
“There was also the consensus that revitalizing the tertiary institutions is of critical importance to the nation. ASUU, therefore agreed with the government to jointly undertake a NEEDS assessment of the universities with a view to harnessing all the funding that hitherto goes into the system in a haphazard manner. The NEEDS Committee that was set up has completed its work and the report has been approved by the Federal Executive Council and the President has approved N100 billion for the committee’s disbursement.

N100 bribe: Policewoman caught in video arrested

Policewoman caught in video
The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday said it had arrested a policewoman caught in a video footage demanding a bribe of N100 from a commercial bus driver.
Public Relations Officer of the command, Ngozi Braide, told our correspondent on the telephone that the arrest followed a probe of the video which has been circulating on the social media.
“We have arrested her and she is presently in custody. She will be made to undergo an orderly room trial and the outcome will be made public,’’ Braide said.
When asked to provide the name and the station the female cop was attached, Braide said she could not immediately provide the details and told our correspondent to call back.
Subsequent calls placed to her phone were not answered. A text message sent to her phone on the matter was also not replied.
In the last 24 hours, the one-minute 25 seconds video, which first appeared on YouTube, has attracted double the amount of views, moving from 23,000 to over 46, 000 as at the time of this report.
In the footage, the policewoman was heard insisting on collecting the N100 bribe from a driver who she apprehended for violating a traffic rule at a yet-to-be identified location in Lagos.
The driver who had passengers in the bus was heard appealing to her that he should be allowed to proceed on his journey. But the driver’s pleas fell on deaf ears as the policewoman insisted on collecting the bribe.
The policewoman was heard saying, “E no concern me. Pay me my own money.”

OPC member kills socialite during gun salute

Ismaila Rahmon
The police have commenced  investigations into the murder of a 72-year-old man, Alhaji Abdulkareem Kadiru, in Ijora Badia area of Lagos State.
According to the police, the victim was killed in error by an Oodua Peoples Congress member, Ismaila Rahmon, who was in charge of security at a school where a Ramadan event took place.
Rahman allegedly killed the Alhaji with a gun he seized from an armed robber but failed to turn it over to the police.
PUNCH Metro learnt that on August 4, 2013, Rahmon and another OPC member, identified simply as Obasanjo, had gone to provide security for the victim and other dignitaries at the event.
It was gathered that Kadiru was a generous man and because of his nature, touts usually surrounded him and sang his praises so that he would give them money
Rahmon was said to have opened fire in a bid to disperse the touts.
It was learnt that after the hoodlums fled, the suspect started hailing Kadiru, shouting Tuale (a local slang to show respect).
He allegedly shot into the air again to salute the victim. The bullet, however, killed Kadiru in error.
The 30-year-old suspect said, “I sell shirts at Oluwole and I am also a part-time Yoruba movie actor. I have starred in three films but I do not get paid because I am an apprentice. In order to make ends meet, I joined the OPC and I earn N12, 000 a month.
“On the day Alhaji was killed, Obasanjo and I went to a secondary school in the area to provide security for influential personalities who came there for Ramadan benevolence programme where they donated items to members of the community.
“When Alhaji arrived, I escorted his vehicle into the compound and touts stormed the school in order to extort money from him. I had been told that area boys would come so I came to the school with a gun. When I attempted to disperse the hoodlums and they refused to go, I shot into the air. I also attempted to give Tuale (salute) to Alhaji with another gunshot because I wanted him to give me money. It was in the process that the bullet hit him in his head.”
The native of Kwara State said after Alhaji fell to the ground, area boys gathered and beat him up.
Our correspondent learnt that the area boys would have lynched him if not for the timely intervention of policemen.
“The area boys beat me up and collected all the money on me which was about N20,000. They seized my phone, kicked me in the penis many times and inflicted wounds on my head. It was the police that saved me from death. The policemen that came arrested me and took me to their station,” he said.
When asked if he was licensed and trained to use a weapon, the suspect said, “I was trained by OPC to use weapons. But I have never used a gun publicly before the incident. The gun did not belong to me; it belonged to an armed robber that I arrested some months ago.”
The suspect, who claimed to be the breadwinner of his family, pleaded with the police to let him go as he did not kill the victim deliberately.
“I have three children and my wife sells bread. I am pleading with the police and Alhaji’s family to forgive me,” he said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the killing to our correspondent on the telephone.
She said, “The matter is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba. The suspect would soon be charged to court.”

Ini Edo bounced!

Ini EdoLast Sunday, August 11, was one that may not have ended on a happy note for Nollywood diva,  It was a day when telecommunication giant, Globacom, launched its Lagos edition of the Glo Slide and Bounce concert and all the ambassadors of the brand were expected to attend and perform
at the event. Among these were chart-bursting artistes in Nigeria: Tuface, Naeto C, Psquare, Burma Boy, Waje, Omawunmi as well as top Nollywood actors.
Honouring the call in her capacity as an ambassador of the brand, Ini Edo arrived promptly, a little earlier than the scheduled time of 6pm and made her way to the back entrance of the Oriental Hotel, Lekki which led to the main hall. However, she was prevented entry by overzealous bouncers who advised her to wait till 6.pm. The actress complied and hung around the car park, but it was not until 9.pm that a visibly offended Ini Edo was spotted being led into the hall by the duo of Jumobi Mofe-Damijo and Desmond Elliot.
This untoward treatment continued when the compere, Okey Bakassi, acknowledged the presence of all the Glo ambassadors present, calling out their names one after the other, but leaving out Ini Edo’s name! This he did twice in a row and this must obviously have irked the actress. When Bakassi remembered to acknowledge her presence during his third announcement, Ini Edo had gone

You Are Deceiving Nigerians - ASUU Blasts Okonjo-Iweala

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, said the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is lying to the entire nation.

“This is a government that signed an agreement with us on January 24, 2012 to the effect that they would inject N100 billion as funding into the universities in the first one month and that before the end of 2012, they would inject another N300 billion. The same government did not put down a kobo to any of these universities.

“So, it is a sad story that we are hearing now that the government cannot meet a demand of N87 billion whereas the government said that they would keep on putting N400 billion annually for three years consecutively to the tune of about N1.2 trillion. If the government is now saying it cannot meet N87billion, Nigerians should know that this is not a government that can be trusted for anything.

ASUU described as a misrepresentation of facts, the comment made by Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, that the striking university lecturers demanded N92 billion as earned allowances in the 2009 agreement.

Speaking through Chairman of University of Ibadan chapter, Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, ASUU said the Federal Government and the minister are not telling the truth.

In a statement, the union said: “I want Nigerians to ask the minister where she got her figure of N92 billion from. There was never a time that ASUU made a demand that is up to N92 billion. I think the 92 billion naira is just the imagination of the Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy.”

Dr. Ajiboye clarified the issue noting that the earned allowances jointly calculated with FG and ASUU in the 2009 agreement was N87 billion and it covers allowances for three and a half years for thousands of lecturers in Nigerian universities.

He stressed that the N87 billion was a compromise made by ASUU by scaling down from N127 billion to N87 billion.

Consequently, Dr Ajiboye called on Nigerians to join ASUU is saying NO to those whom he said were bent on destroying public institutions, because their children are not in Nigeria.

i have learnt from my mistakes- jim iyke

Jim Iyke
His name is James Ikechukwu but many  know him as Jim Iyke. He talks about his personality and career
With kidnap cases being a common trend, do you entertain fears that you could be a victim?
There is a certain way I live and I believe people only attract what they feel and what they love. So, if I have fears, what I would attract would be fears and misgivings. I am completely fearless about these things because it is a law of attraction. I have no fear of gunmen or kidnappers because I have not wronged anybody for them to want to harm me. I drive out at 2am and go back to my house at 4am. I just believe that every morning when I get on my knees and pray, God knows my intention. He knows that I am going for my daily bread and I am not in anybody’s way. Though, I have made my mistakes, I have  repented  from  them and go  about my business. There are basic laws of existence which people should not violate. If you have the fear of the unknown all the time, you will  attract negative things to yourself. I don’t live like that.   I am a typical Lagos boy and I have been around all kinds of crimes and none ever got to me

Egyptian police kill 30 in protest crackdown – Muslim Brotherhood Movement

Egypt protesters and police clash
Egyptian security forces killed at least 30 people on Wednesday clearing a camp of Cairo protesters who were demanding the reinstatement of deposed President Mohamed Morsi, Muslim Brotherhood movement said.
The move, around 7 a.m., came after international efforts failed to mediate an end to a six-week political standoff between Morsi’s supporters and the army-backed government which took power after his ouster on July 3.
With the Brotherhood calling on its supporters to take to the streets, the violence risked further destabilising a pivotal Arab nation and endangering hopes for democratic government.
There was no official confirmation of the deaths at Rabaa al-Adawiya, in northeast Cairo where thousands of Morsi supporters awoke to police helicopters circling the site.

Five-year-old girl abducted at Redemption Camp

Oluwaseun Ogungbemile
The abduction of a five-year-old girl, Oluwaseun Ogungbemile, at the Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has thrown her parents into panic.
It was learnt that the girl, in company with her parents, had gone to the camp at Kilometre 46 on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, to attend the one-week annual convention of the church that ended on Sunday.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the girl, who is the youngest child of her parents, was last seen playing with two of her cousins on Friday, August 9, 2013.
The victim’s aunt, Omotade Odunowo, told our correspondent that the matter had been reported to the police.
She said, “She (Oluwaseun) was staying at a rented chalet in the camp along with her parents. Around 10am on that day, she was seen with two of her younger cousins, who are between the ages of two and three.
“After sometime, we did not see her again. Due to the young ages of the little children who were with her at the time of her disappearance, we have not been able to know what happened exactly.”
Odunowo said all efforts to trace the victim’s whereabouts proved abortive and the family believed that she had been abducted.
She said the family had searched every nook and cranny of the camp and reported to the relevant authorities in RCCG, all to no avail.
She added that no one had called the family to demand a ransom.
Odunowo said, “We have been traumatised since then and cannot wait for the safe return of our daughter back home. We shall therefore be extremely grateful to receive any information that may lead to our reunion with Oluwaseun. She is adorable, smart and talks a lot.”
She said the girl’s parents had not been alright since the incident. She said the mother had refused to go back to work since her daughter went missing.
She said, “Oluwaseun’s mother has not left the Redemption Camp since the incident occurred. She is still hoping that the person that took her away would bring her back.”
When contacted on the telephone, the state police  command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, adding that the matter was being investigated at the Redemption Camp Police Station.
“The parents of the victim said they came to the camp with eight children and one of them had gone missing. We have swung into action and we want to assure the family that the little girl will be found,” he said.
A security official at the church, who refused to identify himself, said the matter had been reported to the police.
He however refused to disclose further information, adding that it was not the wish of the church that the news of the abduction be leaked to members of the public

Terry G: Call me Lucifer!

Terry G: Call me Lucifer!
BY tony Ogaga Erhariefe
Gabriel Oche-Amanyi, popularly known as Terry G ranks among the most celebrated entertainers in the country. However, he is controversial, which makes people to see him in different light. The talented musician cum producer in this interview with The Entertainer talks about his career, family and why he prefers to be called Lucifer. Excerpts:
You recently had a concert in Abuja. Tell us about it?
It was my album release concert. The title of my latest album is Book of Ginger, so we tagged the event Book Of Ginger Concert. It was held at the This Day Dome, Abuja.
How was the concert?
To God be the glory, it was a massive success, even beyond my expectation. Honestly, I can’t thank everybody who made it a success enough. I need to thank people like Charly Boy, Timaya, AY, Klint Da Drunk, Skales, Solid Star, Gordons, Denrele, Kcee, Akpororo, Jaywon, Chuddy K and Ozzybosco. They really made the concert a success with their contributions. Based on the success of the Abuja edition, my fans in other parts of Nigeria have been clamouring for such concert in their places. I promise they will have it. My team has actually considered more states where the Book of Ginger Concert will be held subsequently.
You had your first child sometime ago. How does it feel to be a father?
It’s the happiest thing that has ever happened to me. There is always a feeling one has never felt before, especially when it is the first time. It’s full of new experiences, and the truth is that it has brought good luck to my life.
Has it changed anything about you?
Yes, definitely. It has changed my lifestyle; I’m now a homely man, always at home playing with my kid. It has made me to be calm.
Tell us about his mother, Mimi?
She is lovely, understanding and very intelligent. It is always difficult to find the right partner, but I’m lucky to have found her.
How and when did your paths cross?
Mimi and I have been together for five years now. We have also been working together, she has been in charge of my music affairs, and when it comes to the organization of my projects, she has been quite supportive. Though, she doesn’t come out in public, she has been awesome.
What attracted her to you?
I told you it is very hard for men of nowadays to find the right woman. What I was looking for was a homely girl; that is the best attraction any man can get. Even your mum will tell you that you must bring home a responsible girl. That is the image she has.
Many people don’t know you also direct musical videos. What can you say about this?
I have been getting compliments from people as regards this. I direct most of my videos. I directed See Groove, So High, AK-One as well as Pull-Off.
When did you discover the skill?
It has been there for a long time, there has not been the right opportunity to exploit it. It has to do with your imagination. As an intellectual artiste, you should be in the best position to interpret the visuals of your songs. You just need one or two technical abilities. I have actually waited for this time and we are getting there.
Your personality means different things to different people. Who actually is Terry G?
Terry G is just a businessman, and a man who has chosen a path to follow. He is a crazy entertainer on stage, up to date and energetic.
When you first came to the industry you referred to yourself as Mr. Bling Bling, later it was Ginger, Akpako Master, and now you said people should call you Lucifer (devil)?
A lot of people got it wrong. Nevertheless, I’m in support of controversy. I knew it was going to cause controversies. What I actually meant was ‘look, see far’; meaning I’m seeing ahead. I told my crew members that it was going to generate controversies and I’m enjoying it.
To what extent do you enjoy controversies?
Not 100 percent because there are some controversies that are accidental; you don’t plan for them; and there are some controversies that come for good. For instance, I just had a baby, bought a car; these are positive controversies that everybody likes. Let me say I like positive controversies.
Considering how wild you are, many people will not believe that you started music from the church, and as a gospel artiste?
Sometimes, you need to put yourself in people’s shoes. When a preacher is preaching to you, and you already knew all what he was going to say, it might not sound interesting. I think God knows why He chose a path for everybody because if you look at it, everybody seems to have done gospel music at some point. It worked for some people, and didn’t work for some. That is because we have different purposes in life.
I know you recorded a gospel album before delving into secular music. How would you describe yourself between then and now?
I will say it was a process. Everything in life demands experience. Some people are there right now just because they understand the market. It will get to a level where you will understand that it is more than just singing; it has to do with showbiz – the talent and business side of it. So, I have understood that with time, there are certain ways you can still do it.
Are you saying gospel music don’t sell?
I didn’t say so. The truth is that in all my albums, there is an element of gospel. There will be a track where I will praise God. Gospel music comes from the heart, because what you sing should portray who you are. You can be singing gospel music and still be a great sinner, so you can’t judge me for playing secular music.
Would you go back to gospel music anytime soon?
By God’s grace; it has been prophesied that God is going to use me to prophesy to multitudes, and I think I’m already doing that in a way, but when God calls me at the right time, I will go for it.
You need to make certain clarifications about your personality. Perhaps, due to your energetic stagecraft and lyrics, some people perceive you to be an addicted Indian hemp smoker?
Well, these things are attached to secular music. Everybody doesn’t do it but I think 99 percent of us are seen doing it. The fact about life is that everything has control. There is a reason for everything. If you ask me, it doesn’t have to do with the fact that people say I take Indian hemp. It has to do with the talent that I have. If I take Indian hemp and I’m not creative or naturally intellectual, it won’t work. Besides, if you look at it, I’m not the only one.
How do you write your songs? Where does the inspiration come from?
I was born in the ghetto; in Iju area of Lagos. I will say my environment inspires me. I’m a very down-to-earth person. I relate with the people you don’t expect, just because I have an agenda. I’m a businessman and my market strategy is the streets, so I have to relate with the street to get my content. Basically, my environment inspires me.
You are adjudged one of the best beat makers in Nigeria. How do you feel?
I have been a producer even before I started singing. I play all the musical instruments, so I’m full of sounds and creativity. I don’t write my music, the beat is the inspiration behind my freestyles and songs. This is because I make the beats before I sing, so my beat inspires me.
You don’t write your songs?
I have never written any of my songs. I only do freestyle. You can ask anybody close to me. It is an imagination, a magnetic memory. The environment itself helps. You just need to decide on the topic first, then everything in your memory comes to play. You can use creative words that are not existing, add them to the ones that exist to make a good sound.
What’s the meaning of Akpako?
Akpako means scope. Interviewing me now means you’re nacking your akpako. Your akpako is journalism. As a lawyer, you nack your akpako when you’re in court. My own akpako (scope) is music. So, if I’m referring to a girl that ‘tile make I nack you akpako…’ that means I’m making sexual conversation with her.
You’ve been quite consistent since you came into the industry. How challenging is it to maintain this level?
I don’t have challenges. I just try to improve myself; I don’t compete or copy anybody because my style of music is different from what other people do. I try to be versatile in my own way.
You have done much collaboration. Which of them is your favourite?
Malonogedege with Timaya. That was a very good sound; it gives you life when you listen to it. I love the song and I appreciate the fact that I did it with Timaya because he is my good friend and my son’s godfather.
You also did a song, Crazycally Fit with Tonto Dikeh. How did that happen?
You know that Tonto Dikeh is also controversial. When she dropped her first two singles, everybody was criticizing her, but I like the fact that she has a market that other female artistes in Nigeria don’t have. She has this crazy female swag that will make her relevant for a long time. I was the one that called her on phone after making the beat. She came and we killed it. I’m happy that the response on the song is good. Music is not all about talent, its about the producer’s ability to discover the potentials of the artiste and give the necessary support.
What was your experience with her in the studio?
It was cool. She listens to instructions and always ready to work, and that is very vital. The problem we have with some artistes in the studio is that they don’t listen.
I guess she is one of the most difficult artistes you have worked with?
Not really. The song we did was good.
She didn’t sing off-key like she did in her debut singles?
No. Every good sound comes from the producer because he has the right to monitor the production and voicing. So, if it is not good to go, he won’t let it out. So, you can’t blame the artiste, you blame the foundation of the song. Everybody can sing; they just need a good producer to coordinate them. It is a step-by-step stuff.
Some artistes have in the past accused you of stealing their beats or songs. Can you clear the air?
People often make this mistake; you don’t say someone stole your beat when it is not your intellectual property. A production belongs to the producer, and he has the right to give his beat to anybody. If I give you a free beat from my heart and you stab me in the back, I don’t have to be violent because there are ways to kill your market. That is why I deliberately do some stuff. I’m a human being.
Where do you place yourself in the industry?
I’m at the top of my game and I wish to be better everyday.
What does your daily routine looks like?
I said it earlier on that I’m more of an indoor person now. If I’m not working in the studio, I will be with my son at home. I don’t go out anymore.
What’s your definition of fashion?
Fashion means presence; it is value and determines how people rate you.
You pierced several parts of your body. Don’t you get uncomfortable with it at times?
You wouldn’t want to do anything that makes you uncomfortable. The only way it might inconvenience you is when you listen to the negative things people are saying. So, if you want to do something, do it the way it pleases you. I’m comfortable with my piercing.
If you have the privilege to change something about yourself, what will it be?
I love driving, and I deny my driver of his duties most times. Maybe I need to change that. But talking about my person, it can’t change. You can’t change what brings food to your table; so far it is not negative.
How has piracy affected you?
It doesn’t affect me. If you are wise in Lagos, you will know that you need to keep dropping hits so that you can get shows and make your money. I don’t depend on album sales, so I concentrate more effort on releasing good music that will keep me relevant.
Are you fulfilled?
Yes, I’m fulfilled. The Bible says that whatever you say with your tongue shall come to pass, so I’m fulfilled.

Until the fateful day, Augustina had been living with her father, Peter Ilevbare, a lance corporal with the Nigerian Army, 9 Brigade Garrison, Ikeja Cantonment and her stepmother,  at CBQ 75, Room 14 of the barracks.
Ilevbare, from Uroe Owen East Local Government Area of Edo State, when contacted on the phone, told PUNCH Metro that he had been living with Augustina since 1999.
He added that the girl left home without telling anyone where she was going.
He said Augustina was not born by his current wife, stressing that her mother abandoned her when she was three months old.
Ilevbare said he and the missing child’s mother were not properly married when she got pregnant for him.
He added, “Since that time, she had been living happily with me and her stepmother. Ever since her mother, whom I have severed relationship with, dumped her in my place when she was three months, I have not set my eyes on her.
“The Sunday preceding her disappearance, we (the family including Augustina), went to an eatery. That is why her disappearance is giving me cause for concern. I enquired from my wife whether they had a disagreement, she answered to the contrary.”
The soldier said they had searched every nook and cranny for her but to no avail.
“Since that time, nobody has heard any information about her. She does not have phone for us to call. I searched for  her mother’s place, but she said she did not see our daughter.
“Why I am also disturbed is that nobody has called us for ransom to suspect that she must have been kidnapped,” he said.
Ilevbare said he had already reported the matter at Akinpelu Police Division in Oshodi.
He also said the matter had been reported to the Military Police office at the Ikeja Military Cantonment.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, said she could not reach the Divisional Police Officer of the station where the case was reported, adding that she would call back.

BokoHaram deputy leader, father killed – Military

Boko Haram members
A key member of the Islamist militant group, Boko Haram, Momogu Bama,  has been killed by  the Joint Task Force in Borno State.
He met his death the same day with his  father,   Alhaji Abatcha Flatari, described as one of the spiritual leaders of the sect  in an operation  between the sect members and the JTF operatives in Bama.
Momogu,  the second-in-command to the sect’s leader, Abubakar Shekau,  had a  N25m  bounty put on his head by security agencies for information that could lead to his arrest.
The Director of Defence Information, Brig.- Gen Chris Olukolade, who confirmed his killing, described him as a vicious Boko Haram leader who took delight in personally slaughtering  the sect’s victims.
He added that  Momogu  was the expert  in charge of  mounting  anti-aircraft weapons for  the sect and coordinating  members  in Yobe and Adamawa  states.
Olukolade said in an electronic mail on Wednesday to one of our correspondents that Momogu was identified by insurgents arrested during one of the recent encounters between the JTF  and the insurgents in Bama.
He said, “As troops intensify pursuit of terrorists who have been unleashing mayhem in Borno and Yobe communities, the death of Momogu  Bama, said to be the Second-in-Command to  Shekau  has been confirmed by other arrested terrorists. This followed encounters with the terrorists around the Bama corridor.
“Momogu Bama personally led the attacks against troops and innocent citizens in the communities of Yobe and Adamawa.  A specialist in manning the anti-aircraft guns of the group, he is known to be vicious and heartless with a penchant for personally slaughtering and executing  victims.
“Momogu Bama has been a most wanted terrorist with a N25m bounty already placed on his head.”
Olukolade, who  added that  the JTF had intensified aerial patrol to secure  communities  in Borno and Yobe states, said   that  17  insurgents were  killed and  24 arrested during the Bama  encounter.
“Others that died in the operation included Momogu’s father, Alhaji  Flatari, who is also one of the spiritual guiding lights of the outlawed terrorists group.  Seventeen  other terrorists also lost their lives in the encounter  while 24 were arrested.’’
He said  the JTF had intensified aerial patrol to secure communities in  the two states.
“The troops are continuing the pursuit of the terrorists while intensifying aggressive aerial and land patrols to ensure better security cover for the communities especially in the two states,” he  said in the  statement.
Meanwhile, eight women may have been arrested in Maiduguri   by  the JTF operatives for using their veils to  conceal  guns for  insurgents.
A JTF source, who made this known  did not  say  exactly when the  women were arrested and the number of guns seized from them.
He  stated that the operatives were stunned when they stopped the women and found out that what they were “transporting” with their veils were guns.
He said, “The troops could not believe what they saw. A soldier just suspected the women and decided to stop them but when they were asked to unwrap what they were transporting, they hesitated, thereby making some of the soldiers to forcefully remove the veils. They saw  a number of guns neatly concealed with the veils and the  women were promptly arrested.”
Olukolade  said that the JTF  in the North-East had intensified patrols in the north of Borno where 44 people  were killed by Boko Haram members  during an attack on  a mosque   on Sunday.
He  added that the JTF was combining aerial and ground patrols  to ensure effective protection of the communities in the area.
The DHQ spokesman said, “There is a regular and more aggressive patrol in the area; the patrols have been increased with the additional troops that are on the ground.
“It is not possible to station troops in all the villages in the area because they  are very far from each other. The solution is to step up patrols; we also have air patrol activities.”
Also on Wednesday, the President of the Senate, David Mark; the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Jama’atu Nasril Islam  joined in the condemnation of the killing of 44  worshippers in  a mosque in Konduga.
Mark, in  a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh,  called on the  security  agencies  to begin a review  of  their  strategies  against terrorism in the country.
He described the  incident as  inhuman and barbaric, saying that “nothing can be so cruel and callous than this crime against humanity.”
He    lamented  that the renewed hostilities were coming   at a time  people were heaving a sigh of relief .
The Senate President  said, “The continued violence, killing of innocent and unarmed people and destruction of property by the insurgents  cannot be justified or contribute towards achieving whatever their objectives may be.
“There is a need for the perpetrators and their financers to make a U-turn and embrace peace. It is only a mad man that throws stone into the market place or village square  without thinking about the consequences . The Federal Government has opened  windows for peace and dialogue. These people should take advantage of  them  and end this violence.’’
Also, CAN, through its President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor,  expressed dismay over the  Konduga massacre , describing  it as callous.
He challenged Islamic  clerics  to “muster the needed courage to expose those who are bent on bastadising the good face of Islam.”
According to him, Islamic leaders should not relent in their efforts “to combat the nefarious activities of the  militant sect  since  they adopt new tactics every day.”
The CAN President, in a statement   on Wednesday by his Special Assistant (Media), Mr. Kenny Ashaka, said the Sunday  massacre was not only condemnable   but a  cowardly act   against   people fulfilling their spiritual obligation .
He said, “Nobody should be killed in the first place, much less  of being murdered  at a place of worship. Whatever people may have learnt that make them behave in such manner should be condemned by all Nigerians. As a Christian body, CAN will continue to condemn these heinous acts of the enemies of unity and agents of death.
“Those betraying their fellow Muslims by working underground with enemies of the nation should also be fished out and dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.”
In  its own statement, the JNI which is  led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar lll, called for investigation into the killings. It  noted that despite the emergency rule in    Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states,  killings by  insurgents had continued unabated.
It specifically wondered how the killings were carried  out considering the     heavy presence of  military men in an area  where over 40 uslims lost their lives while worshipping.
In the   statement   by its  Secretary-General, Dr. Khalid Aliyu, the JNI said it  received “with consternation and daze,  the senseless killings that occurred at police and military formations in Bama, Malam Fatori, Borno State, which was climaxed with another  senseless killings of innocent worshippers during early dawn prayers at a mosque in Konduga   some kilometres  away from Maiduguri, Borno State.”

"I am a victim of domestic violence" - Actress Chika Ike opens up

Actress Chike Ike pens an open letter to her fans, opening up about the physical abuse she suffered in the hands of the man she called her husband for five years. Find her story below...
The past three years has been a very emotional period for me. I focused my energy on work and to build back my self esteem. its been really hard for me to come out straight and talk about this because sometimes I pinch myself to wake up and not believe that I was a victim of domestic violence. I've been through a lot in my life, faced a lot of challenges but this is one topic I've tried so hard to avoid and have been waiting for the right time but I have come to a resolve   that there's really no right time because every second of the day, lives are being lost due to domestic violence.  I was a victiim of domestic violence in my marriage and that was the singular reason I left my marriage, aside other reasons.
Growing up as a girl. I was always known as the sweetest kid on the block, before I got married, I have been through some relationships and for once no man had ever laid a finger on me. The first time it happened in my marriage I didn't understand it because I am not the type of woman a man beats but I guess there are no types. It just happens and no woman deserves it. As a young girl I thought it was love or his way of expressing his emotions, after every beating he pleads , cries and says it won't happen again, once again I thought it was love and made excuses for him.  Over the years when it kept happening consistently I started looking for other definitions for it.  I started loosing my self pride, self esteem , self worth, and most painfully i lost  a pregnancy (Miscarriage) I almost lost my life in the process then I realised how serious and abnormal it really was.

I have heard and read a lot of accusations from ignorant people who don't know my story,I guess that's why they are ignorant.  I was 20yrs old and  very naïve to the world when I got married .“ They said I married for money“ LOL. I was married to a corporate guy,who had a 9_5 job in a bank, Lives in a rented 2 bedroom apartment at Egbe..  So do the maths! . I married for love. I did a traditional wedding. A white wedding and a court wedding. So that's how much I wanted to be married forever.  For five years I hoped, prayed & wished that one day it will all change. But the last straw that broke the carmels back was during a heated argument he threw a glass  jug to my face and I dogged it and it shattered on d wall. I saw death flash before me and I made a decision to save my life. I left my marriage.

Am not saying  this to draw pity from anyone because we are entitled to our opinions and believes. I am not also saying this to discourage people from falling in love because its a beautiful feeling and I still believe in it. I am saying this to educate, share and talk about my experience as a victim of domestic violence because it is real.

Police arraign gay prophet

August 8, 2013 • By Our Reporter
From OKEY SAMPSON, Aba

Police in Aba, Abia State have arraigned a 40-year-old gay prophet, Ndubuisi Benjamin for having unlawful carnal knowledge of  a boy. His arrest was at the instance of the victim’s family, who accused him of the act with their son, Ndukwe (surname withheld).

Ndukwe, who is said to be currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the commercial city, due to the injuries sustained while the accused allegedly engaged him in the illicit sexual escapade, was believed to have been hypnotized by the self-styled prophet of a  church in Aba.

Police spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna, said the cleric allegedly confessed to the police that he was gay and that the victim was one of his church workers.

Ogbonna said Ndubuisi told the police that he had slept with the victim for 17 times.  In a suit, MAN/115C/2013, the Police prosecutor, Corporal Galadima Rubies, told the court how Benjamin allegedly had carnal knowledge of one Ndukwe against the order of nature through the anus and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 214(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 80 Vol.3 Laws of Abia State 2005.

Responding to the charge, Benjamin told the court that he was a businessman and not a pastor as was alleged by the police. He said until he (the accused) was brought before the magistrate, the police were yet to tell him his offence(s) that warranted his arrest and therefore, pleaded not guilty.

After listening to the accused’s plea, the trial Magistrate, K.I Udo of the Aba North Local Government, Chief Magistrate Court One, granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 with a surety in the like sum.

Magistrate Udo said the surety must be a person with a verifiable means of livelihood and resident within the jurisdiction of the court and must submit two of his or her recent passport photographs.

The case was adjourned till September 9, 2013 for further hearing.

Lagos stands still as Fashola buries dad

From OLUWOLE FAROTIMI
Lagos State literally stood still yesterday as the state Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola buried his father amid funfare. The remains of Pa Ademola Fashola was conveyed in a wine Mercedes Benz R 350 from his residence, No 31, Ladipo Labinjo Street in Surulere to the Lagos Central Mosque where Muslim prayer was offered for the repose of his soul.
Alhaji Akinola Garba, Chief Imam of Lagos Central Mosque, who called on Nigerians to be God fearing and have love for their fellow men, led the prayers.
Pa Fashola was laid to rest at the famous Vaults and Gardens, located in Ikoyi area of Lagos at 4 pm.
The governor, who donned a white Kaftan, performed the dust-to-dust rite with other members of the family.
Governor Fashola, who spoke after the internment, said his father lived a fulfilled life, saying he would be missed for his friendship and kindness.
“I will like to say thank you very much to everyone who has rallied round the family from yesterday even before I came back from Saudi Arabia.
“I thank all Nigerians from Mr. President who called persistently until he got to me. He sent his representative here today and that is the Minister of Sports. My brother governors, Imams, everybody, I thank you very much. Our gratitude is deep and immense and we cannot fully express it.
“As for my father, for all of us his children, first and foremost, he was our best friend. So, that is what we would miss really. He was a loving friend who allowed us to be the best we could be. He guided us and encouraged us to succeed.
“I think, if there is any person who did not have any problem, it was my father. He just got on with life; he did not recriminate. In every position he found himself, good, comfortable, difficult, painful, he just got on. I learnt many things from him.
“ I hope I can be as rounded in integrity as he was. He was humble in his attitude to life, humble in life. He died in the month of Ramadan, he died in the Night of Majesty,” Fashola said.
The governor said his father was a contented man who lived a life free of worries, adding that the family was glad he died in the holy month of Ramadan and prayed to God to grant him peaceful repose.

Child trafficking: Police intercept bus with 16 children

Child trafficking: Police intercept bus with 16 children
From Jeff Amechi Agbodo, Abakaliki
A commercial bus conveying no fewer than 16 children suspected to be victims of child trafficking has been intercepted by the police in Ebonyi State along Abakaliki-Enugu expressway.  The commercial bus with registration number XA 746 LCA conveying the children between the ages of 14 and 17, suspected to be heading to Lagos was intercepted by policemen on stop and search exercise.
Daily Sun gathered that the children were recruited from different parts of Izzi council area by the suspected trafficker, who assembled them at Iziogo motor park in Izzi Local Government Area for onward movement to Ilaje in Lagos and other parts of the state.
The children, comprising 14 boys and two girls were said to have been recruited for menial jobs like house helps, hawkers, sales girls as well as serving in restaurants and hotels.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Sylvester Igbo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who confirmed the incident said: “On July 30, a team of policemen from Ishielu division intercepted a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number XA 746 LCA driven by one Mr. Sunday aged 39 conveying 16 teenagers comprising two girls and 14 boys to Ilaje village in Lagos State and suspected human trafficking. But investigation is in progress.”
He said on interrogation of the bus driver, he revealed that the first bus loaded with similar children had gone to Lagos, saying his vehicle was the second bus to Lagos that day and denied knowledge of the purpose for which they were going to Lagos.
A source at the park told our correspondent that under-age children were always transported to Lagos daily, lamenting that the children include school dropouts and those that had not gone to school at all. He said their ‘boss’ claimed to be helping their poor parents by sending them to Lagos for greener pastures.
“Most of the children don’t even know what they are going to Lagos to do but are desperate to go to Lagos to work and that includes any type of job. Some children, who wanted to travel to Lagos and had no money for transport fare will seize the opportunity, having seen a sponsor. Some of their parents are in support of their trip while some children ran away from home to join the sponsor to the park,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the PPRO stated that two suspects were arrested for stealing and raping of their victim on August 3, 2013 at Omega Echara in Ikwo East Development Centre.

Why strike’ll continue – ASUU

Why strike’ll continue – ASUU
By KEMI YESUFU, Abuja

President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr Nasir Fagge, yesterday dashed the hopes of students and parents as he vowed that the union will continue its over one month strike until government meets all its demands.
Fagge, who spoke to journalists after leaving the sub-committee meeting headed by Bauchi State Governor Gabriel Suswan’s NEEDS Assessment committee, stated that the union would not end the strike until the union completely deals with all the challenges confronting universities.
When asked if ASUU could not end the strike for the interest of the students, he said no. He queried: “Didn’t we do that in the past? How many times did we call off strike before and nothing happened? When we call off strike, people just go back and sleep. Is that what you want us to do?
Continue having strike in this country? Don’t you think for once, it is better we come out and things are done right before we call off the strike? I think that is better for this country.”
But Governor Suswan, Chairman of the Federal Government NEEDS Assessment Committee for universities, assured that the face-off will be resolved in two weeks time.
He said that the sub-committee set up by his own committee has made some progress in sorting out the fundamental issues involved in the re-negotiated agreement with ASUU.
Suswam said: “The meeting went on very well, we have made substantial progress in the negotiation. I would like to say that we are almost getting there. The sub-committee that I set up could not completely finish its work and because there is holiday in between, we have shifted the meeting till next week Tuesday.
“Based on the commitment and seriousness of the negotiations, we are hoping that we will complete this thing in the next two weeks, that was last week when I spoke.
“Because of the holiday in between, we would have been able to finish negotiations. Hopefully, we would agree on all the issues and if the issues are agreed upon by the two parties, I’m very optimistic that the issues would be addressed next week. I believe once we address the issues, the strike will be called off,” he said.

The hotel in Onitsha where 2 human heads were allegedly discovered

This is the popular hotel in Onitsha that was demolished by the Anambra State government last week after two human skulls were allegedly discovered inside. The hotel, called Upper Class Hotel, is located at 8 Old Market Road, Onitsha and is owned by business man, Mr Bonaventure Mokwe.

The human skulls, a male and a female head, were discovered after the Nigerian police raided the hotel following a tip off. Mr Mokwe has been arrested
along with 10 other people; His wife, Mrs Nkiru Mokwe, a lawyer, has appealed to president Jonathan to save her husband's life claiming he was set up. She said the whole thing was a set up and the human heads planted in the hotel by people who wanted to destroy her husband.
“My husband is being detained in a very dehumanizing condition at SARS, Awkuzu, and the police have denied him access to his lawyer and relations." She said "My husband’s hotel at No 8, Old Market Road, Onitsha which he inherited from his father, Chief G.C Mokwe, has been demolished"
She said her husband was a real estate magnate and there were lots of conflicts over ownership of lands between him and some people which led to his attempted assassination in 2009. She also alleged that the state government was planning to demolish other properties belonging to Mr Mokwe and begged for intervention.
